Because of the very large volume of water that can fit in a swim spa, it is essential to understand how its cleaning and filtering systems work. If these systems were not installed to keep water in perfect condition, we would be wasting thousands of liters every few days by having to change the water too often.
Currently the vast majority of hydromassage pools have several active cleaning systems that allow us to always have its water in perfect condition:
A filtration equipment including filter pump and skimmer. In our swimming pools the filtration pump is 750W, which is less electricity than the pumps of most of our competitors. This pump is responsible for pushing the water up to the particulate filter where all the impurities of the water get trapped, and then recycling it back into the pool. This filtering process can be activated manually by pressing the corresponding button, or it can be programmed in cycles of fixed duration (e.g. from 16:00 to 20:00) so that it automatically filters every day at the chosen time by the user.
A complete system of ozone disinfection, called ozonator, that releases ozone charges to disinfect the pool water. Fortunately, it does not require replacement parts or any action on the part of the user, since ozone is automatically regenerated by taking oxygen from the air, and then released into the water, removing bacteria that may have accumulated from using the equipment. The ozonator activates itself during filtration cycles every few seconds and progressively disinfects the water.
But then, don't I have to add any chemicals to the water?
Even with the pool's disinfection and filtration equipment, it is not enough to keep the water completely clean for long periods of time. Therefore, it is necessary to complement this with the use of chemicals that significantly extend the lifespan of the water.
Do not worry if you are sensitive to chlorine, as we do not ancourage its usage for our hydromassage pools; it is very abrasive to skin, eyes and could also damage the machinery (bombs) over time. In the case of our equipment, we suggest using bromine, which is much less abrasive and functions efficiently at high water temperatures.
Our company offers all the chemicals you might need in complete kits that include everything from bromine to pH meters, algicides, anti-foaming and other common water-care products. Of course, you can also buy them on your own elsewhere. In the user guides you will find a section of several pages explaining all the products that could be used in the water if needed.
Even if you have no prior knowledge, don't worry. Just follow the steps in the guide on what to put in the water, how to maintain it, and what to do if you detect inappropriate levels in the water (whether of bromine, pH, or anything else). And of course, you can always call us to ask any questions!
Do not forget to use only products for spas/pools with machinery. Products used for common swimming pools usually do not work well with the electronic components of hydromassage pools, since the water is always in contact with pumps and all kinds of machinery it is important to keep it in mind. Do it right and you will enjoy your equipment for many years to come.
Is there anything else I should consider in order to keep the hydrotherapy pool in good condition?
Water treatment is vital to keep the pool in perfect conditions and thus preventing the growth of bacteria. However, there are also other small aspects that will help you with the equipments' care :
Each time you empty the water completely, it is advisable to clean the acrylic glass. Do not use chemicals, especially if they are not specifically designed for cleaning acrylics in spas and pools. All you need to do is run a damp cloth over the entire surface to remove any chemical residue or other substances that may have accumulated on the bottom during months of use. Once cleaned, you can refill it normally. It will remove dirt and extend the life and colour of the acrylic!
Do not forget to clean both the thermal cover and the swimming pool skirts (outside) with a damp cloth to prevent excessive dirt from accumulating. It'll only take a couple of minutes and it will make it look its best!
If you anticipate not using the hydromassage pool for more than 2 months, we recommend to empty it of water until further use. If you leave it full, you will need to keep the filtration cycles running and keep adding bromine to keep it clean and disinfected. Think efficiently and you'll get it right!
