Given the substantial water volume needed for each refill of an outdoor hot tub, it is important to understand that these products incorporate filtration systems responsible to uphold water cleanliness for as long as possible. Otherwise, significant water wastage would occur every few days, ranging from 500L to 1200L, depending on the spa bathtub model and its dimensions.

In today's market, the majority of outdoor hot tubs feature two active purification systems aimed at mantaining water quality:

Filtration pump and skimmer system: A water pump (ours being low-consumption at 250W, half that of most competitors) circulates water from the spa bathtub to a filter cartridge. This mechanism effectively traps impurities, ensuring water circulation to prevent stagnation. While the filtration pump can be manually activated, it is also possible to pre-program cleaning cycles, enabling automatic spa cleaning without user intervention (for instance, you can set the spa to activate daily from 09:00 to 12:00).

Ozone disinfection system: The ozonator, an electronic device, requires no recharging and operates entirely organically. It converts oxygen from the air into ozone, a vital element for outdoor spas that inhibits bacterial proliferation. The ozonator automatically activates during water filtration, operating every 15 minutes for 15 seconds, avoiding the need for the user to monitor its activation.

But then, isn't it necessary to add chemicals to the water?

While these two systems help maintain water cleanliness for a period, the reality is that without the assistance of chemical additives, it would not be possible to enjoy perfectly clean water for long.

If you have sensitivity to chlorine, rest assured, we avoid using it for water cleaning (in fact, it's strongly discouraged). Instead, we utilise bromine, a gentler compound for the skin and eyes, which performs more effectlively at high temperatures typical of hot tubs.

At our company, we offer complete kits of specialised spa bathtubs products, ensuring you have everything necessary to optimise each refill. Alternatively, if you prefer to purchase them separately, our outdoor hot tub guides include a dedicated seven-page section on water care and maintenance, so there's no need to worry about this matter.

Even if you you're unfamiliar with spa water treatment, following the manual step by step will suffice. You will find sections outlining the target water levels, the initial chemical treatment, ongoing chemical maintenance, and guidance on what to do if the water levels are inappropriate.

Remember to use only products specifically designed for outdoor hot tubs (not those intended for pools). Spa bathtubs are in constant contact with pumps and electrical components that need to be safeguarded. By protecting your hot tub correctly, you will be able to enjoy its benefits for many years to come.

Is there any other aspect that I should consider to keep the outdoor hot tub in good condition?

Water treatment is a crucial aspect that prolons the life of the spa water and prevents the development of bacteria. However, there are other (very simple) aspects that should not overlook. Some important tips include:

Clean the acrylic of the outdoor hot tub after each draining with a cloth dampened in water and completely clean. Do not use any chemical products, especilly those hot specifically designed for hot tubs. Wiping the interior of the spa bathtub with a cloth will remove stains, adhered germs, and chemicals used for water treatment. This will remove dirt and extend the life and colour of the acrylic!

Clean the thermal cover of the spa every 1-2 months with a damp cloth, and the side skirts every 2-4 months to prevent excess dirt buildup. Taking just two minutes to clean the hot tub will make it look its best!

If you anticipate not using the outdoor hot tub for more than 2 months, it is recommended to empty it of water to prevent stagnation. Failing to do so will require you to monitor the water treatment and activate the filtration pump to avoid it. Think efficiently, and you'll make the right decision!
